Alocasia Care Tips

1. Watering
Alocasias require consistent moisture but are highly sensitive to overwatering.
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry.
Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth, but allow for slight drying between waterings.
Use a well-draining pot with drainage holes to avoid soggy roots and potential rot.
2. Humidity
High humidity is essential for Alocasia health and growth.
Aim for 60–80% humidity.
Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or place the plant in a naturally humid area like a bathroom with good light.
Dry air can lead to leaf edges browning or leaf drop.
3. Temperature
Alocasias prefer warm, tropical conditions.
Ideal temperature range: 65–85°F (18–29°C)
Avoid temperatures below 60°F (15°C), which can cause dormancy or stress.
Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
4. Light
Bright, indirect light is best for Alocasias.
Too much direct sun can burn the leaves; too little light may cause slow growth and smaller foliage.
A spot near an east-facing window or filtered south-facing light is ideal.
Rotate occasionally to promote even growth.
Extra Tips
Alocasias may go dormant in winter—if so, reduce watering and wait for spring regrowth.
Use a chunky, well-draining soil mix (such as a blend of potting mix, perlite, and orchid bark).
Fertilize every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
Keep an eye out for spider mites and other pests, as Alocasias can be susceptible.
